Optimization of HR activities at B+S Card Service, a provider of electronic payment solutions

Challenge

The HR activities of B+S Card Service GmbH were heavily influenced by various stakeholders and various interests. The HR department had been set up to be purely administrative. The aim was to futureproof it. The lack of an experienced HR manager had led to disagreements and there was room for improvement in communication. The aim was to reposition the HR department within the company (including with regard to the Works Council) as well as to make and implement important decisions promptly. To achieve this, it was necessary to optimize HR activities, fill vacancies and digitize HR processes. 

Success

Atreus developed and successfully implemented measures to optimize HR activities: The Atreus manager hired a new HR manager and an HR developer, and supported them in their training. HR development now plays a key role within the HR department. The Atreus manager also succeeded in harmonizing the relationship with the co-determination committees and limiting the external consultation of the Works Council to the main issues. This was evidence that the HR department had evolved into a proper business partner.

Why did you turn to Atreus?

As part of our growth strategy for Germany and Europe, it was very important to us to reorganize our HR department, which had been set up to be largely administrative, and to futureproof our HR processes. The position of HR manager was also vacant. What requirements did you place on the Atreus HR expert?

We wanted the Atreus manager to acquire an in-depth understanding of our company and point out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks of HR activities on this basis. As our day-to-day business was strongly influenced by various stakeholders, we were looking for a personality who could master the situation and mediate between the parties with a solution-oriented approach. 

How did the Atreus manager go about this?

First she analyzed the corporate culture and internal processes in the HR department, HR development and the Compensation & Benefits department. She then developed measures to provide a sustainable solution for all the short- and medium-term issues on this basis. The HR expert managed the negotiations in HR development very successfully: a number of agreements were concluded. At the same time, she assumed responsibility for the selection, recruitment and training of the new HR manager and the HR developer. Thanks to the support of the Atreus manager, the HR team is now a proper business partner.
